Duart Homestead was originally built in 1883 as the Maffra home of Hon. Allan McLean, a prominent local businessman who later went on to become Premier of Victoria in 1899, and in 1901, was named Gippsland's first Federal Representative.
The homestead itself was named after Duart Castle in Scotland, the seat of the Clan McLean
